The black truffle is an underground mushroom that mainly grows during autumn and winter in hazelnuts and oak forests. 

Native to the French Périgord region, it is also sometimes cultivated in other European countries. It has a black-purple exterior that becomes brown-black with age. It is highly appreciated for cooking thanks to its pungent and musky scent.
